Chief of Akyem Akroso denies praising Bawumia during palace visit
The Chief of Akyem Akroso in the Eastern Region, Nana Kwabena Ofori II, has denied reports that he extolled Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia during the latter's visit to his palace as part of a regional tour over the weekend.
Addressing claims circulating on social media that he stated Ghanaians would suffer if they did not vote for Dr. Bawumia, Nana Ofori II vehemently denied making such remarks.
"I did not consciously make any such statement," he said in an interview on the Ghana Yensom morning show co-hosted by Otafrigya Kayire Kwesi Appea-Apreku and Odehyeeba Kofi Essuman on Accra 100.5 FM on Tuesday, September 3, 2024.
“There is no way I would speak in that manner,” he added.
The chief called on his people to disregard the statements circulated on social media, stressing that the quotes attributed to him had been fabricated to create a false impression among Ghanaians.
Nana Ofori II explained that during Dr. Bawumia's visit to his palace, he merely listened to the Vice President enumerate his achievements and encouraged him to continue sharing his accomplishments with the public.
