Majority Chief Whip Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor has mounted a strong defense of the Tamale High Court’s ruling on the disputed Kpandai parliamentary election, dismissing what he calls deliberate misinformation and unfounded allegations from the Minority.

Responding to claims by the Minority Leader that the presiding judge acted improperly and that the petition filed by NDC parliamentary candidate Mr Nindam had been rendered ineffective, Mr Dafeamekpor insisted that the court acted within the confines of the law.

He clarified that the judgment, delivered on November 24 at 9:56 a.m., ordered a rerun of the Kpandai election following findings of significant electoral infractions and violence during the December 7 polls.

He noted that the decision was duly communicated to both Parliament and the Electoral Commission.

According to Dafeamekpor, Mr. Nindam filed a notice of appeal at 10:04 a.m.—just eight minutes after the ruling—raising three grounds for contesting the decision.

The NDC candidate has also filed an application for a stay of execution, which is scheduled for hearing on December 17.

The Majority Chief Whip rejected accusations of judicial misconduct, insisting that the legal procedures are being followed transparently and in accordance with due process.

He urged the Minority to desist from what he described as misleading commentary and instead focus their energies on grassroots mobilisation.

Mr Dafeamekpor reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, stressing that judicial matters must be allowed to run their full course.

“The law is the law, and we will uphold it. Let the courts handle judicial issues—not Parliament,” he said.
