Dec. polls: CPP debunks rumour of Captain Smart as running mate

Newly elected Presidential Candidate for the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Nana Frimpomaa Kumankumah, has denied rumours circulating on social media suggesting she plans to run in the 2024 presidential elections alongside broadcast journalist, Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart.
Nana Frimpomaa Kumankumah confirmed neither she nor the CPP had made any decision regarding her running mate.
She urged Ghanaians to disregard the social media claims, stating an official announcement about her running mate will be made in due course.
Nana Frimpomaa Kumankumah was elected as the CPP's presidential candidate for the upcoming December 7 general election on Wednesday, September 4, following a competitive electoral process held across all 16 regions of Ghana.
Voting concluded at 3 p.m., and the Electoral Commission (EC) declared her the winner with 763 votes, defeating her opponent, Nana Yaw Anokye Frimpong, who garnered 586 votes.
A total of 1,360 votes were cast, with 11 votes rejected.
In her victory speech, Nana Frimpomaa Kumankumah called for unity within the party to ensure success in the 2024 general elections.
“In every election, one person will emerge as the winner, and it is essential for everyone to stand together to ensure unity and cohesion,” she stated.
“I thank all who voted for me and even those who did not. My win was decisive and represents the voice of the masses,” she added.
She spoke in an interview with Accra-based Asaase Radio.
