Dec polls: I can’t favour Akufo-Addo if Ghanaians reject him – Jean Mensa
Chairperson of Electoral Commission Jean Mensa has rubbished claims by some opposition parties that she is at the beg and call of President Akufo-Akufo in the run-up to December polls.
The biggest opposition party, National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused Mrs Mensa of being in bed with the governing party to rig the polls in favour of President Akufo-Addo.
The NDC has also accused Ms Mensa of exhibiting unfair, authoritative and intolerant attitudes at Inter-Party Advisory Committee solely in a bid to twist processes and outcomes of the 2020 polls in favour of President Akufo-Addo.
But Ms Mensa has disclosed that she has met President Akufo-Addo only twice after her appointment as the chair of Electoral Commission on official assignments.
Speaking at a workshop on election reporting organised by the election management body in collaboration with the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in Accra on Tuesday, 24 November 2020, Mrs Mensa said: "Let me be honest with you, even if the president is my father, there is nothing I can do to favour him if the citizenry reject him at the polls.
“I've met President Akufo-Addo only twice since my appointment and even that, it was official duties, so when people are talking like that, ignore them".
