Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Razak Kojo Opoku, has raised serious concerns over the credibility of a recent Africa Policy Lens poll which placed former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ahead in the party’s flagbearership race.

The poll, released by Africa Policy Lens, reportedly gave Dr. Bawumia 63.8% of projected support among NPP delegates — a result that Dr. Opoku claims may have been influenced by behind-the-scenes dealings.

In a statement shared on social media, Dr. Opoku alleged that a “powerful meeting” took place between cabinet members of Africa Policy Lens and individuals aligned with Dr. Bawumia prior to the poll’s publication.

“This powerful meeting was held with the cabinet members of Africa Policy Lens before the poll was released, miraculously giving Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia 63.8%.

The smile on their faces shows that the reward or promise from Dr. Bawumia to them was indeed mouthwatering,” he wrote.

Dr. Opoku’s comments have sparked debate within political circles, with some calling for transparency from Africa Policy Lens regarding its polling methodology and affiliations.

As of now, Africa Policy Lens has not issued an official response to the allegations.

Political analysts, however, note that such disputes are common in the lead-up to internal party elections, as various camps seek to assert their influence and credibility.
