Economic mess: We can’t blame you - NDC tells Akufo-Addo blame must go to EMT head

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), the main opposition party, has unequivocally dismissed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's plea to hold him accountable for the economic challenges facing the nation.
During the delivery of the final State of the Nation Address (SoNA) to Parliament on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, President Akufo-Addo acknowledged the responsibility that comes with being an executive president, stating that he assumed both credit and blame for the country's circumstances.
However, the rejection of this plea came swiftly from the former Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency in the Volta Region, Mr Daniel Ashiaman, who spoke as a panellist on The Citizen Show hosted by Nana Otu Darko on Accra 100.5 FM the same day.
Mr Daniel Ashiaman argued that holding the president accountable for economic challenges is akin to expecting an economic lecturer to be responsible for a Religious & Moral Education lecture.
He firmly rejected the president's plea, asserting that the blame should fall on Vice President Mahamadu Bawumia for perceived inactions in managing the economy.
Dr Bawumia is the Head of the Economic Management Team, thus, the NDC lawmaker argued, that he is more appropriate to blame when evaluating the country's economic landscape.
