Economy: Bawumia can speak, but doesn’t have the final say – Jerry Ahmed

Mr. Jerry Ahmed Shaib, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the Weija-Gbawe Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, has defended Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia against any allegations of wrongdoing in his role as the head of the Economic Management Team (EMT).
According to Mr. Shaib, the Vice President, who is also the flagbearer of the NPP, plays an advisory role and does not have the final say on economic policy.
“The final decision on the economic outlook is the prerogative of the President, not the Vice President,” he explained.
He pointed out that this is why budgets presented to Parliament are done in the name of the President and not the Vice President.
Addressing the current economic challenges, Mr. Shaib acknowledged the hardships many Ghanaians are facing.
However, he argued that the solution lies in upgrading rather than resetting the economic policies.
“If you attempt resetting, errors such as the Free Senior High School and ‘dumsor’ will make resetting difficult to achieve,” he cautioned.
He urged Ghanaians to remain patient as Dr. Bawumia and his team work to improve the economy for a better future.
“Our lights are on all day; I know what ‘dumsor’ did to marriages when former President John Mahama was in power,” Mr. Shaib noted, referring to the frequent power outages during Mahama's tenure.
He also highlighted the current global economic conditions, stating that the challenges with the dollar are not only unique to Ghana.
Mr. Shaib emphasized that the best path forward for Ghana is to support the bold economic decisions declared by Dr. Bawumia.
He called on Ghanaians to rally behind these ambitions for a more prosperous future.
Outlining his plans for the Weija-Gbawe Constituency, Mr. Shaib said he intends to prioritize the construction of a local market and other essential facilities if elected in the December 7 elections.
He also promised to focus on improving access to tertiary education for the youth in the area and ensuring that Weija-Gbawe receives its fair share of national development.
Mr. Shaib made these remarks in an interview with Classfmonline.com onSturday August 31, 2024.
