The Member of Parliament for Amasaman Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Sedem Afenyo, together with officials from the Ga West Municipal Assembly and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), has undertaken an assessment tour of communities affected by recent heavy rains.

The visit focused on flood-prone and impacted areas within the constituency following continuous downpours that have disrupted livelihoods and damaged property in several locations.

During the tour, the MP noted that while the country is currently in the rainy season, the intensity and frequency of rainfall this year have created significant challenges for residents in affected communities.

He assured residents that government and relevant agencies are working to provide immediate support to affected households, while also developing long-term interventions to reduce the impact of flooding in the constituency.

The MP expressed concern over the increasing construction of structures within waterways and drainage channels, warning that such developments contribute significantly to the flooding situation.

He cautioned that buildings found to be obstructing natural watercourses or erected in unauthorized areas would be demolished in accordance with the law to safeguard public safety.

NADMO officials accompanying the tour emphasized the need for stricter enforcement of planning regulations and public cooperation to prevent further encroachment on drainage systems.

The MP reiterated that while government is committed to improving drainage infrastructure and implementing sustainable flood control measures, residents and property owners also have a responsibility to avoid obstructing waterways.

He reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of constituents and pledged continued collaboration with NADMO, local authorities, and other stakeholders to address flooding challenges and protect lives and property across the constituency.
