GSS, NHIA & DACF face Parliament Tuesday on statutory funds
Parliament is expected to be briefed tomorrow, Tuesday, 22 June 2021, by the heads of some key state institutions on matters relating to the formulae for disbursing statutory funds and their mode of operation.
This was disclosed by Deputy Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo Markin.
Presenting the Business Statement for the Fifth Week ending Thursday, 24 June 2021, Mr Afenyo-Markin noted that the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) is expected to use the opportunity to provide insight into the Population and Housing Census exercise going on across the country and also provide the role the MPs would be expected to play toward a successful exercise.
He indicated that the officials from NHIA would brief the house on critical issues pertinent to the formulae for the disbursement of the National Health Insurance Fund for the year 2021.
The Deputy Majority Leader further informed the house that the Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) would also be given an opportunity to present the disbursement formulae the house for approval.
Deputy Minority Whip Ahmed Ibrahim noted that Parliament is mandated by law to approve the formulae for the disbursement of NHIF, DACF and GETfund within three months after the year’s budget has been presented but there has been an undue delay from the heads of these state institutions.
Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu was of the view that the delay by President Nana Akufo-Addo in constituting the Road Fund Board as well as other Boards of state institutions and appointing Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) is causing severe hardship to some individuals, especially contractors, therefore, the President must act fast to address these situations.
