The governments of Ghana and the United Kingdom have agreed to step up efforts to ensure trade continuity.

They have also welcomed efforts to build a strong foundation for deeper trade and relationship for the future.

This was agreed at the third meeting of the UK-Ghana Business Council (UK-GBC) held on Friday, 4 October 2019 at the Jubilee House in Accra.

Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia co-chaired the meeting with Elizabeth Sugg, the UK's Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for International Development.

Started in 2018, the UK-GBC is committed to taking forward a deeper and more strategic bilateral partnership to enhance economic development, job creation, trade, and investment between Ghana and the United Kingdom.

At Friday's meeting, six sectors (Agric-business, extractives, garments/textiles, digitalisation, pharmaceuticals, and financial services) and three themes (infrastructure, domestic revenue mobilisation, and ease of doing business) were agreed as priorities.

The meeting welcomed the announcement of some new programmes which are under development to support Ghana in agriculture, oil and gas governance, taxation, infrastructure, as well as, new partnerships between the British Geological Survey and Ghana Geological Survey Authority in developing a base land map survey for Ghana.
