Ghana closes land borders to ensure peaceful elections
The Ministry of the Interior has announced the temporary closure of all land borders in Ghana as part of efforts to safeguard the integrity of the December 7 elections.
The closure, effective immediately, will remain in place until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, 8 December 2024.
The measure aims to enhance security and create a peaceful environment for the electoral process.
In a statement, Interior Minister Henry Quartey urged citizens and travellers to adhere to the directive and cooperate fully with security agencies enforcing it.
“This decision underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a peaceful and secure atmosphere for the elections,” the statement noted.
