Ghana on path to cleaner rivers and forests under NDC’s NAiMOS efforts – John Afful
The Head of Communications for the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (ReCOMSDEP), Mr. John Afful, has commended the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for its renewed efforts in the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.
According to Mr. Afful, the NDC’s aggressive stance on illegal mining within just ten months is a clear indication of the party’s commitment to restoring Ghana’s degraded environment, particularly the country’s polluted water bodies and depleted forest reserves under the leadership of Nana Akuffo Addo and the NPP.
Speaking on the Citizen's Show on Accra 100.5 FM on November 7, 2025, Mr. Afful noted that the ongoing operations and policy interventions under the party’s framework reflect a practical and sustainable approach to addressing the long-standing issue of illegal mining.
“The NDC’s fight against illegal mining within this short period is an assurance that Ghana will once again enjoy clean water bodies and thriving forest ecosystems,” he stated.
Mr. Afful further emphasised the need for collective action among government agencies, mining communities, and civil society organisations to ensure the sustainability of the gains being made.
He also encouraged responsible and cooperative mining practices that promote both environmental protection and economic empowerment for small-scale miners.
The Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (RCOMSDEP) continues to play a key role in promoting sustainable mining practices, environmental conservation, and skills development for artisanal miners across the country, he concluded.
