Ghanaians head to the polls today
Ghanaians across the nation are heading to the polls today, Saturday, 7 December 2024, to elect a president and to lead the country for the next four years.
Voting begins at 7 a.m. at polling stations nationwide and will close at 5 p.m.
This election marks Ghana’s ninth under the Fourth Republic and is widely regarded as a critical moment in the nation’s democratic journey.
The presidential race features 15 contenders, with Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former President John Dramani Mahama of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) leading in a closely contested race.
In addition to the presidential vote, citizens will elect Members of Parliament (MPs) for all 276 constituencies across the country.
The elections come amidst significant economic challenges, including post-pandemic recovery, high unemployment, rising inflation, and growing public debt, making this contest a pivotal one for Ghana’s future direction.
All eyes are on the Electoral Commission(EC) and stakeholders to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful process as Ghanaians exercise their democratic rights.
