Politics
EC Chairperson and NDC General Secretary

The leading opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) to make available the training manual for officials who will be taking part in the scheduled voter registration exercise across the country.

The call was made in a letter signed by the General Secretary of the party, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah dated Monday, 18 May 2020 and addressed to the EC Chairperson.

According to the NDC, it “has become aware of an ongoing nationwide training exercise being conducted by the Electoral Commission to prepare its staff to be deployed for the conduct of voter registration prior to the 2020 General Elections”.

The NDC noted: “As a major stakeholder whose agents have important functions to perform during the exercise to ensure its credibility, we are, by this letter, officially requesting the Commission to supply the NDC with the above-named documents and any other material that would enable the party to prepare our agents adequately for same.”

Meanwhile, the EC will hold a meeting with the Inter-Party Advisory Committee on Wednesday, 27 May 2020 to discuss issues relating to the upcoming registration exercise although the NDC has declined the offer to take part in the meeting.
