I declined Cheddar’s offer to be his running mate – Samia Nkrumah

Miss Samia Nkrumah, daughter of Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, has revealed that she was approached by Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as Cheddar, the leader of the New Force Movement, to be his running mate in the 2024 general elections.
However, she turned down the offer.
Ms. Samia explained her decision, stating, "Yes, Cheddar did [approach me]. But I told him that I’d invested too much in Jomoro, and I believe the Nkrumahist tradition must be represented in Parliament, in our decision-making."
She emphasized her commitment to ensuring the Nkrumahist tradition continues to play a role in Ghana's political landscape, highlighting that it is currently not represented with "clarity and conviction."
Samia Nkrumah expressed her belief that many Ghanaians have the potential to make a difference both inside and outside of politics.
However, she stressed that those pursuing political power must do so with a clear and strategic approach. "I believe many Ghanaians have what it takes inside and outside politics.
But politics is a different thing; when vying for political power, you have to do it with a strategic aim," she noted.
Reaffirming her dedication to the Nkrumahist tradition, Ms. Samia reiterated her desire to see its influence grow in Ghana's Parliament.
"I’ve invested too much in that, and I want to see that happen," she added, underscoring her commitment to her father's legacy and her strategic vision for Ghana's future.
She spoke during an interview on Star FM's Starr Chat
