I'll deal with siren abusers in G/AR – Minister-designate
The Regional Minister-designate of the Greater Accra Region, Mr Henry Quartey, has said if confirmed, he would ensure that persons who abuse car sirens on the roads are punished.
The Regional Minister-designate was speaking when he appeared before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Monday, 1 March 2021.
Mr Quartey said: “What I am about to say will not be nice in the ears of [my] colleagues [MPs] – the abuse of sirens.”
Touching on innovations he would bring to the region, Mr Quartey added: “When given the nod, I would ensure that the abuse of sirens and blue lights are minimised. This is an innovation I want to bring to the region”.
The Ghana Police Service, in 2017, cautioned all persons using unlawfully-installed sirens in their vehicles against using it.
It advised such persons to disassemble it.
The police noted that only certain vehicles such as ambulances, bullion vans, specific state vehicles should have horns or sirens and warned institutions and individuals not authorised to use sirens against doing so.
