Mr Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communication Officer of the biggest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has filed an official complaint at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service against the governing New Patriotic Party’s Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Mr Kennedy Agyapong, for allegedly threatening his life.

Tough-talking Mr Agyapong allegedly said on Accra-based Asempa FM’s Ekosii sen political talk show on Tuesday, 4 August 2020, Founders’ Day, that he would have his thugs pounce on Mr Gyamfi.

He was responding to alleged claims by the Gyamfi that the near-ending voter registration exercise being undertaken by the Electoral Commission, had been characterised by violence in Assin Central.

Mr Gyamfi’s complaint filed on his behalf by his lawyers, read in part: “While speaking in the Twi language on the said programme, Mr Kennedy Agyapong stated, among other things, that if our client does proceed with his advocacy on national issues in a particular manner, he shall, in a matter of three seconds, organise his thugs to beat and/or finish our client mercilessly”.

The complaint indicated that there was “credible intelligence” to show that, “indeed”, the lawmaker had “contracted some thugs to carry out” his threats on Mr Gyamfi, who is also a lawyer.
