Kweku Baako wins defamation case against Ken Agyapong

The Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul-Malik Kweku Baako Jr., has won a defamatory suit against Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong.

An Accra High Court ruled on Friday, 26 June 2020 that the outspoken MP retract the defamatory words and apologise to Mr Baako in 30 days.

Mt Agyapong is to pay damages of GHS100,000.

A cost of GHS30,000 was also awarded against him.

 

Mr Baako, in 2018, sued the lawmaker and sought damages of GHS25 million.

According to Mr Baako, the lawmaker defamed him on a radio talk show called Boiling Point on Oman FM and Adom Badwam talk show on Adom FM on separate dates.

Mr Baako also praying the court to direct Mr Agyapong to “publish on three consecutive occasions on the same platform that he published the defamatory words, an unqualified retraction and an apology, with the same prominence as given to the issuance of the defamatory words. Other costs including legal fees and any others as this honourable court may deem fit.”
