President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, to immediately investigate allegations surrounding the collection of taxes on mining equipment in the Amansie Central District.

The directive follows a JoyNews report that raised concerns about the handling of mining equipment taxes in the area.

According to sources at the Presidency, the Minister has been tasked to conduct a thorough probe into the matter and ensure swift action is taken against any individuals found culpable.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Minister received a formal petition from JoyNews detailing the allegations. He assured the media outlet that the issues raised would be addressed with urgency.

Government says the move underscores its commitment to transparency, accountability and proper oversight in the administration of local government systems.

Further details are expected following the outcome of the investigations.
