The Minority Caucus in Parliament has issued a strong call on the government to take urgent and decisive steps to address the escalating conflict in Bawku, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive and sustainable response.

Speaking on behalf of the caucus,  Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, Member of Parliament for Assin South and a Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee of  Parliament, stressed that the government must go beyond temporary fixes and tackle the underlying issues fueling the unrest — including poverty, inequality, and inadequate access to education and healthcare.

“The government must act now to restore calm and prevent further deterioration of the situation in Bawku.

A lasting solution lies in a holistic approach that addresses the root causes of the conflict,” he stated.

The Minority is urging the government to engage local communities and key stakeholders in crafting a peace and development strategy that not only restores stability but also promotes long-term prosperity for the region.

This appeal echoes sentiments shared at the United Nations Security Council’s debate on the theme “Silencing the Guns in Africa,” where global leaders underscored the importance of African-led solutions. Speakers at the forum advocated for greater investment in education, healthcare, innovation, and employment opportunities as key drivers of peace.

The Minority believes that adopting such an inclusive strategy will not only resolve the crisis in Bawku but also strengthen Ghana’s commitment to peace, security, and development.
