The Minority in Parliament, led by Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin ESQ, has made a call for transparency regarding the funding of the Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD) led by Samuel Gyamfi ESQ.

The caucus pointed out that despite the government’s earlier announcement of a US$279 million allocation to support the board’s operations, a recent Right to Information request indicated that the ministry of finance had not disbursed any funds to the board since its inception.

This discrepancy has raised concerns about the actual sources of its financial support.

Speaking to the press in Parliament, Patrick Boamah, Chairperson of the Subsidiary Legislation Committee, urged the government to provide comprehensive details on how the board was being financed. 

Additionally, the Minority demanded that the board publicly disclosed detailed reports of its activities on its official website, as mandated by law.

This measure is aimed at enhancing transparency and ensuring accountability in tracing the origin of the gold the board handles.
