Minority raises concern over Ministers’ absenteeism; Majority Leader responds
The Minority in Parliament has voiced strong dissatisfaction over what it describes as the frequent absence of Ministers during sittings, preventing them from responding to questions on their respective Ministries.
The caucus highlighted that this trend has led to a backlog of nearly 300 unanswered parliamentary questions, some of which have reportedly lost relevance due to the delays.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, the Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, described the situation as unacceptable and a clear disregard for parliamentary oversight.
Responding, the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, stated that the government will not yield to pressure to appoint additional ministers, despite concerns from the Minority about persistent absences.
He urged the Minority to avoid politicising the matter when Ministers appear before Parliament, emphasising that the time allocated for questions must be strictly observed, given that Ministers have other critical responsibilities.
