Minority walks out on 4 ‘Green Ghana Day’ dep. ministers
The minority caucus in parliament on Wednesday, 23 June 2021, boycotted the approval of four deputy ministerial nominees who were vetted on Green Ghana Day.
The caucus argued that the four were smuggled in on their blind side.
They include Deputy Attorney General Diana Asonaba Dapaah, Deputy Local Government Minister Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, Deputy Sanitation Minister Amidu Chinia and Deputy Gender Minister Zuweira Abudu.
Deputy Minority Leader James Klutse Avedzi explained to the house on Wednesday, 23 June 2021, that the Chairman of the Appointments Committee of parliament, Mr Joe Osei-Owusu “has not been fair to the minority side of the committee”.
“While the Right Honourable Speaker directed that we should take part in the tree-planting [exercise], they organised a meeting for vetting of these people”, he complained.
“We, from the minority [caucus], will not be part of this debate because the chairman has not been fair to us,” he said.
“Our side will not support these four nominees”, the Ketu North MP stressed, adding: “We will not be part of this”.
“And I want to draw your attention to this, so, we will walk out and when you finish, we will come back,” he added.
