My focus was on Adongo’s cogent arguments not the headline — Mahama on 'Akyem Sakawa' endorsement

Former President John Mahama has stated that he reposted a write-up originally authored by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolgatanga Central, Mr Isaac Adongo because of the cogent arguments made by the legislator rather than the headline of the script.

Mr Mahama explained that his focus was on the body of the write-up, adding that the title did not catch his attention.

The NDC flagbearer, thus, noted that he did not brand anyone or any group as “Akyem Sakawa.”

He stressed that he only shared the post titled, ‘Agyapa Royalties Fraud Is The Last Straw: The Akyem Sakawa Boys and Grandpas must Go’ because Mr Adongo made some cogent arguments about the controversial Agyapa deal.

“I didn't say anybody is Akyem Sakawa, I just reposted...I read a statement from Isaac Adongo. He made very good arguments and actually my mind was on the body of the arguments he made and, so, I reposted what he wrote.

“It [the headline] didn't come to me as anything I thought about. I saw his post, I reposted it. For me, the arguments he made there were very cogent that is why I reposted it,” Mr Mahama told Benjamin Akakpo on Class 91.3FM’s Executive Breakfast Show (EBS) on Monday, 14 September 2020.

In the said write-up, Mr Adongo described President Akufo-Addo and some government officials as ‘Akyem Sakawa Boys’ and accused him of forming a family-and-friends cartel to capture the mineral resources of the state.

A group calling itself the Concerned Citizens of Akyem in the Eastern Region, after its demonstration on Wednesday, 9 September 2020, gave Mr Mahama a 72-hour ultimatum to apologise to Akyems or stay away from campaigning in any of their jurisdictions over such comments.

However, another Okyeman Group, Progressive Akyem Citizens, countered the claims made by the Concerned Citizens of Akyem.

According to the Progressive Akyem Citizens, the actions of the other group is shrouded in “misguided emotionalism and unhealthy political infiltration.
