NDC Central Regional Chairman gives Awutu Senya East leadership two-week ultimatum

Politics
Dr Richard Asiedu

The Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Richard Kofi Asiedu, has issued a two-week ultimatum to the leadership of the Awutu Senya East Constituency to resolve ongoing internal disputes or risk a regional takeover of the constituency’s administration.

Mr. Asiedu warned that failure to address the entrenched divisions would compel the Central Regional Executive Committee to assume full administrative control of the constituency in order to restore order and cohesion.

The ultimatum comes despite the party’s historic victory in winning the Kasoa parliamentary seat in the 2024 general elections. Since the win, however, the constituency has been rocked by persistent internal conflicts, which party insiders say are undermining unity and effective organisation at the local level.

The tension is reportedly centred around the Constituency Chairman, Mr. Stephen Ofosu Agyare, and the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Miss Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunnor, with each commanding the loyalty of rival factions within the party.

Several attempts to resolve the impasse, including interventions by national party figures such as NDC National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, and President John Dramani Mahama, have so far failed to yield lasting solutions.

Addressing party members at an event at the Ofaakor Palace—where Miss Okunnor donated food items and cement—Mr. Asiedu expressed concern that the continued disunity was stalling the party’s progress and could trigger disorder during the upcoming internal elections.

“The issue of disunity is real, and it is affecting our progress. If it is not addressed, it will breed chaos during our internal elections,” he cautioned.

Mr. Asiedu indicated that a final decision on the possible takeover of the constituency’s administration would be taken at the next Functional Executive Committee meeting of the party.
