NDC Mining Committee denies NPP's allegations of recruiting thugs in Obuasi

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has refuted allegations made by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) suggesting that the NDC is training thugs in Obuasi East to disrupt the upcoming December 7, 2024, elections.
Mr Samuel Hadjor, Secretary to the NDC Mining Committee, strongly dismissed the claims made by NPP National Organizer Nana Boakye, known as Nana B, who alleged that NDC members were conducting “private security training” under the guise of political activities.
In his response, Hadjor clarified that the NDC recently held a public mining conference on November 12, 2024, at Mawuli Hotel in Obuasi to introduce the party's mining policy to stakeholders.
“The purpose of this conference was to introduce and discuss the NDC’s mining policy document with miners and stakeholders,” he stated.
He noted that the event was open to the public, covered by national media including GHOne TV, Joy News, and TV3, and attended by high-profile figures like former Ashanti Regional Minister Alexander Ackon and former Obuasi MCE Richard Kwasi Ofori Buadi.
Hadjor dismissed the NPP's accusations as “baseless claims,” asserting that the conference was no secret.
He further pointed out that the event coincided with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign in Obuasi, making it unlikely that any covert activities would be conducted.
He suggested that the NPP’s allegations stem from “fear and frustration” as the ruling party faces declining support from mining communities.
According to Hadjor, the NDC’s mining policy has generated enthusiasm among miners, presenting a vision for revitalizing the small-scale mining sector, which he believes threatens the NPP's position in these areas.
Reaffirming the NDC's commitment to a peaceful election, Hadjor assured Ghanaians that the party would not engage in any activities that undermine national security.
He urged voters to dismiss the NPP's allegations and turn out in large numbers to vote for NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama and NDC parliamentary candidates.
Hadjor also made a direct appeal to miners, encouraging them to support the NDC to bring about reforms that will benefit their industry and communities.
