NPP Flagbearer race: I’ve not endorsed Bawumia or any candidate – Kufour
Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has denied endorsing Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the next flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) over several others who have expressed interest to contest in the race.
According to a statement from Mr Kufuor’s office, he at a Father’s Day event where the Vice President was present only used the occasion to reminisce the father-son relationship between him and Dr Bawumia and elaborated on how the Vice President was only one month, one day younger than his (Kufour) own eldest son.
It added that there was nothing political about Mr Kufuor’s statement.
For the NPP’s flagbearer race, Mr Kufuor noted in the statement that he expects fair and unengineered systems and processes that will lead to fair selection of the NPP’s next flagbearer. This he said should be devoid of coercion and machinations so that the eventual selected nominee can easily command the support and respect of all party faithful and Ghanaians towards ‘Breaking the 8’.
