NPP Primaries: Sammi Awuku acclaimed as NPP Parliamentary candidate for Akropong
The Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Sammi Awuku, has been unanimously endorsed as the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the Akropong Constituency in the Eastern Region for the 2024 elections.
Mr Awuku was the sole candidate to file his nomination for the constituency primary.
The acclamation ceremony took place at the Presbyterian College of Education in Akropong and was attended by prominent party members; including Michael Otchere Baafi, MP for New Juaben South and Deputy Trade Minister, Jeff Konadu Addo, the Eastern Regional Chairman of the party, as well as several ministers of state and national party executives.
The endorsement follows the decision of the incumbent NPP MP, Nana Ama Dokua Asiama-Adjei, to contest in the Okaikoi North Constituency of the Greater Accra Region.
Addressing the delegates after his acclamation, Mr Awuku expressed gratitude for the opportunity and saw it as a call to service.
He emphasised his commitment to representing the interests, concerns, and aspirations of the constituents, stating, "It will be an honour to represent the people of Akropong, and this is a call to service".
Reflecting on the journey that led to his acclamation, Mr Awuku highlighted the support he received from friends and party members over the past decade.
He pledged to focus on development in the areas of roads, health, water, and electricity, promising to be a unifying figure within the party.
“We will ensure that development in the areas of roads, health, potable water, electricity. All those who left come home, let’s work together, I will be a candidate for all the people, and I want to be an MP when elected for all,” Mr Awuku explained.
He aims to leverage his experience and leadership to contribute to the growth and development of the area, promising a united front for the party and constituents.
