NPP accuses NDC of defaming Kasoa residents ahead of elections

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has levelled accusations against the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), alleging that the latter is attempting to tarnish the image of the residents of Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East Constituency of the Central Region.
According to the NPP, elements within the NDC are focused on portraying the people of Kasoa as violent ahead of the upcoming general elections.
The NPP's Assistant Constituency Secretary, Mr. Charles Kwadwo Odum, voiced these concerns during an interview on the Ghana Yensom morning show, co-hosted by Otafrigya Kwesi Appea-Apreku and Odehyeeba Kofi Essuman on Accra 100.5 FM on Monday, June 10, 2024.
Mr. Odum criticized what he termed as unpatriotic actions by some NDC members, suggesting that their goal is to depict the area negatively.
He called on Ghanaians to disregard what he described as the NDC’s sinister motives.
Highlighting efforts to promote unity, Mr. Odum noted that the NDC declined an invitation to participate in a peace walk aimed at fostering harmony in the community ahead of the general election.
The peace walk was intended to show solidarity among residents, but the NDC, led by its Parliamentary Candidate, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, chose not to attend.
In response, the NDC’s Constituency Communications Officer, Delali Kporyekpor, refuted the NPP’s allegations.
He categorically stated that there have been instances where their parliamentary candidate has faced personal attacks from NPP members in the area.
Mr. Kporyekpor emphasized that the NDC and its candidate have consistently advocated for peace in the constituency.
“The NDC has always been on the side of peace,” he concluded, dismissing the NPP’s claims as unfounded.
He called on Ghanaians to ignore the sinister motives of the NPP in the impending elections.
