NPP retains Ejisu seat; Kwabena Boateng elected MP
In the Ejisu Constituency of the Ashanti region, Kwabena Boateng, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary candidate, emerged victorious in the by-election, securing the seat in Parliament.
Mr Boateng garnered 27,782 votes, representing 55.79 percent of the total votes cast. His closest rival, independent candidate Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, trailed behind with 21,536 votes, constituting 43.24 percent of the vote share.
The other candidates, including Esther Osei of the CPP with 89 votes, Beatrice Boakye of the LPG with 149 votes, and independent candidates Fredua Agyemang and Attakora Joseph with 222 and 23 votes respectively, had smaller vote shares.
Following his victory, Mr Boateng expressed his commitment to uniting the constituents and fostering development in the constituency.
The by-election was necessitated by the passing of the sitting MP, John Kumah.
The contest was fiercely fought, particularly between Boateng and Aduomi, a former three-time NPP Member of Parliament for the constituency, who ran as an Independent Candidate.
However, Mr Boateng's victory was not without controversy, as allegations of vote-buying were levelled against his campaign.
In response, the Electoral Commission took action by removing two temporary staff members following the emergence of a viral video purportedly showing them accepting a bribe during the Ejisu by-election.
