Napo had unanimous support as running mate – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has confirmed that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s appointment as Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia’s running mate was met with unanimous approval from the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Council.
The President was speaking the unveiling ceremony held at the Manhyia Palace, on Tuesday, 9 July 2024, where Dr. Opoku Prempeh, also known as Napo, was introduced to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The event was graced by a host of prominent NPP figures, including President Akufo-Addo, the Council of Elders, Members of Parliament, and other influential party members. President Akufo-Addo used the occasion to commend Dr. Opoku Prempeh for his pivotal role in the implementation of the government’s flagship Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy.
“Dr. Prempeh's implementation of the Free SHS policy is a testament to his hard work, which I believe will be translated into leadership of the country,” President Akufo-Addo stated.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, expressed his gratitude to President Akufo-Addo for selecting Dr. Opoku Prempeh as the running mate.
The King fondly recalled the days when he had supported Dr. Prempeh through his school years, including paying his fees, and voiced his pride in the Minister’s accomplishments.
“I am grateful to President Akufo-Addo for this decision,” Otumfuo Osei Tutu II said, reflecting on his historical support for Dr. Prempeh.
“I have watched with pride as Dr. Prempeh has grown into a capable leader,” he added.
