Next NDC govt’ll create jobs through crop processing zones – Mahama
The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said if the party wins the December 2020 polls, young people will benefit from job creation avenues.
Speaking to Woezor TV on Saturday, 17 October 2020 in the Central Region, Mr Mahama said that young people will be given employment opportunities in order to ensure sustainable development.
He noted that the youth form a central part of the country’s population and politics, but have not been immensely involved in its development.
"It's only natural because the age demographic of Ghana has changed.
"We have a majority of young people and so naturally you would expect that young people are the ones involved in political activities.
"But aside from that, there's a lot of dashed expectations.
"Young people feel let down by our democracy and our politics and that the country is not working for them.
"They don't see that the country is giving them any benefits, you know, in terms of their citizenship and who they are.
"And that is why I've said our next focus, we will continue development, we will do roads and things in order to facilitate the lives of people. You must improve their healthcare by building polyclinics and hospitals and all that,” he added.
He, therefore, cited one key way in which the next NDC government will rope the youth in, through job creation.
“But most of all we must turn our focus on finding jobs for young people and that is why we are coming up with things like the Crop processing zones so that you look at what the comparative advantage of each segment of the country is, and you put in the capacity to process and create a value chain with that area so jobs, jobs, jobs is our next focus as a government,” he indicated.
