Only NPP supporters benefitted from COVID-19 relief fund – Mahama
The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr John Dramani Mahama, has questioned the government’s mode of disbursement of the COVID-19 relief fund.
Addressing supporters of NDC on Monday, 19 October 2020 at Somreboi as part of his five-day campaign tour of the Western Region, the former President explained that it was under his tenure as president of Ghana that the Stabilisation Fund was established to cater for emergencies such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Mr Mahama, more than 300 million dollars was generated for the fund and parliament, this year, approved 200 million dollars to mitigate the impact of COVID-19.
He accused the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) of politicising and selectively disbursing the funds meant to alleviate the hardship imposed on Ghanaians.
“But in the disbursement of the fund, the government is giving the money to only NPP supporters, including their chairmen and secretaries. And it is not good”, Mr Mahama condemned.
He indicated that the fund, intended to ease the hardship of all Ghanaians, has been made available to a selected few.
He added that the next NDC government will ensure that all Ghanaians benefit from the country’s resources, regardless of party affiliation.
