President John Dramani Mahama has marked the 2025 International Women’s Day (IWD).

On Facebook, today, Saturday, March 8, he underlined even though there remained more progress to be attained, Ghana had shown commitment to gender equality by making Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang (NJOA) its first female Vice President, a move that could be serve as a springboard to greater exploits.

“This year’s theme, #AccelerateAction, calls for urgent measures to ensure that we achieve gender equality. Ghana has made significant strides, particularly in electing its first female Vice President. Let’s build on this momentum,” President Mahama wrote.

He attached a poster showing him with Prof NJOA.

Even though candidate Mahama on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lost the 2020 elections with Prof NJOA as his running mate, he doubled down on his confidence in the academic and former education minister in 2024, eventually seeing historic victory.
