S/R: Akufo-Addo endorses Bawumia as ideal successor at Damongo 'Thank You Rally'
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has endorsed Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the best candidate to succeed him in the upcoming December 7 elections, citing his competence, loyalty, and genuine concern for Ghanaians.
Speaking at a 'Thank You Rally' in Damongo on Monday, 14 October 2024, President Akufo-Addo urged voters in the Savannah Region to support Dr. Bawumia, emphasising that he possesses "the capacity and love of the country at heart to continue the nation’s development."
The rally served as a farewell to the people of the region, thanking them for their cooperation and support during his presidency.
During his visit, the President also paid a courtesy call on Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, the Overlord of Gonjaland, expressing gratitude for his pivotal role in resolving the Dagbon chieftaincy dispute.
Highlighting his administration's achievements, President Akufo-Addo pointed out several key initiatives in the region, including the creation of the Savannah Region, the construction of three factories under the One-District, One-Factory policy, and the ongoing Damongo Water Project, which is 80% complete.
He also mentioned the construction of 460 kilometres of roads, with 10 kilometres in Damongo being asphalted and 300 kilometres of feeder roads improved for better connectivity.
The President announced that the Daboya College of Education, previously under private management, would be officially inaugurated in two weeks after being absorbed by the government.
Addressing national policies, President Akufo-Addo noted that 5.7 million students have benefitted from the Free Senior High School policy, with 1.6 million currently enrolled. He also reported that under the One-District, One-Factory initiative, 169 factories are operational while 152 others are under construction.
Samuel Abu Jinapor, the Member of Parliament for Damongo and Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, praised President Akufo-Addo’s administration, stating that its achievements in the region are "unmatched."
He highlighted the long-standing struggle of the people of Gonjaland for regional recognition, asserting, "It is President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who finally created the Savannah Region."
Mr. Jinapor declared that the President has attained a "legendary status" among the Gonja people, saying, "This is part of the Akufo-Addo legacy, today and forever. You have liberated the people of Gonjaland and granted us independence."
He concluded by expressing gratitude on behalf of the Savannah Region, stating: "In addition to creating this region, you have brought unparalleled development in all facets of human life. Your legacy in education, healthcare, agriculture, road infrastructure, and more is unmatched."
