Speaker Bagbin to rule on contempt complaint against Minority Leader today
The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has confirmed receipt of a formal contempt complaint filed by the Majority Leader, Mr Mahama Ayariga, against the Minority Leader, Mr. Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
The Speaker announced during Tuesday's parliamentary sitting that he has carefully noted the details of the complaint and will deliver his ruling today, Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
“I have received the complaint from the Majority Leader and will study the matter thoroughly before delivering my ruling on Wednesday,” Speaker Bagbin stated from the chair.
The complaint alleges that the Minority Leader engaged in conduct deemed contemptuous of Parliament's authority and proceedings.
The development has drawn significant attention from both sides of the House, creating heightened anticipation for the Speaker's determination.
The Speaker's ruling is expected to clarify whether the matter will be referred to the Privileges Committee for further investigation or disposed of through other parliamentary procedures.
