The General Secretary of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Mr. Abraham Koomson, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to reassign or replace Special Prosecutor Mr. Kissi Agyebeng, citing what he described as a lacklustre performance in tackling corruption cases involving officials of the previous administration.

Speaking on Ahotor FM’s “Yepe Ahunu” programme on Saturday, Mr. Koomson expressed disappointment in the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), arguing that it had failed to show sufficient commitment to pursuing major corruption cases.

“The Special Prosecutor is not on top of his game. We are not seeing any real progress in prosecuting those who looted state funds under the previous government,” he said.

The veteran labour leader further questioned the motives behind the creation of the OSP under the Akufo-Addo administration, alleging that it was politically driven rather than reform-oriented.

“The Office of the Special Prosecutor was created by former President Akufo-Addo with ill intentions — not to fight corruption genuinely, but to target members of the NDC.

That’s why he brought in Martin Amidu in the first place,” Koomson alleged.

According to Mr. Koomson, if President Mahama is committed to his “Reset Agenda”, then a shake-up at the OSP is essential to restore public trust and ensure impartial justice in the country’s anti-corruption efforts.

He also criticised Mr. Agyebeng for what he described as “media theatrics” and a lack of tangible outcomes.

“He keeps holding press conferences without securing any meaningful prosecutions.

Ghanaians are tired of talk; we want action,” he emphasised.

Mr. Koomson’s comments came just days after Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng announced plans to formally charge former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and five other ex-government officials by the end of November 2025.

The charges relate to alleged corruption, statutory breaches, and conflicts of interest linked to the Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) contract.

Ernest Akore, former Chief of Staff at the Finance Ministry

Emmanuel Kofi Nti, former Commissioner-General, GRA

Rev. Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, former Commissioner-General, GRA

Isaac Crentsil, former Commissioner, Customs Division, GRA

Kwadwo Damoah, former Commissioner, Customs Division, GRA, and Member of Parliament for Jaman South

Mr. Koomson concluded by urging the President to appoint a more competent and impartial prosecutor, stressing that only then will corruption cases from the previous administration be pursued with the seriousness they deserve.
