Tamale: NDC rallies groups ahead of 'Y3npini' demo
The National Communication Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Samuel Gyamfi, has said the party is ready for the upcoming demonstration against the Electoral Commission’s proposed new electoral register.
The demonstration is scheduled for Saturday, 11 January 2020.
Mr Gyamfi, who has been meeting youth groups and associations ahead of the demonstration in Tamale, Northern Region, said the NDC is poised and determined to do everything against the new register because it is a calculated attempt by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the EC to rig the 2020 elections.
Mr Gyamfi made the remarks when he spoke to Class News’ Northern regional correspondent in Tamale, Fuseini Safianu, at a popular NDC youth base in Changli known as 64 Bench.
"We are here because of Saturday's demonstration. We are here because we are determined to do everything under the sun to make sure that the agenda of President Akufo-Addo and Jean Mensa to rig the 2020 elections does not come to pass and that is why we are here," he said.
Mr Gyamfi disclosed that it was not only the NDC that was in Tamale for the demonstration.
"… The PNC is here and all the other political parties are here. More of our leaders will be coming in [today]. We are touching base with various groupings in the city of Tamale. You can see that the enthusiasm is very high. People understand why we must kick against this register, which is only a calculated attempt to rig the 2020 elections", Mr Gyamfi stated.
He noted that the police have been notified and have given them the assurance of providing them with security.
As of the time of filing this report, Mr Gyamfi had met about 15 associations made up of about 100 members each.
