Tamale South MP calls on EC to ensure ballot transparency ahead of elections
Haruna Iddrisu, the Member of Parliament for Tamale South Constituency in the Northern Region, is urging the Electoral Commission (EC) to enhance transparency in the upcoming elections by providing serial numbers for all ballot papers.
He emphasized that sharing these serial numbers with all political parties would make it easier to identify and trace any misplaced ballots across regions, thereby promoting fairness in the electoral process.
Mr Iddrisu called on the EC to disclose the quantity and serial numbers of all printed ballot papers for each region, district, and constituency.
"In the name of transparency, we are asking for the serial numbers of every ballot paper printed for each region, district, and constituency," he stated, adding that this level of transparency would allow parties to monitor ballots effectively.
He further warned that any ballot paper intended for one region but found in another would be treated as evidence of fraud.
"We want to know where our serial numbers start and end, so we can track them across regions.
If we find any ballot paper meant for the Northern Region in Ashanti or Eastern, we will expose any fraudulent intentions," Iddrisu stated firmly.
Expressing confidence in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, John Dramani Mahama, Iddrisu reiterated, "We are convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that John Dramani Mahama will win in a free, fair, and credible election."
He also directed a cautionary message to Electoral Commissioner Jean Mensa, urging her to maintain neutrality and avoid any influence from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) that might compromise the election's integrity.
