V/R: Rise against politics of exclusion - NDC Chairman to Ghanaians
Volta Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Mawutor Agbavitor, has called upon all well-meaning Ghanaians to unite against politics of exclusion, as it poses a threat to the democratic foundation of the country.
In a nation like Ghana, known for its democratic principles, Mr. Agbavitor expressed his disappointment at the rise of exclusionary practices within the political landscape. He emphasized that politics should be a unifying force, bringing together diverse voices, including political actors and concerned citizens, to collectively act in the best interest of the nation.
Chairman Agbavitor highlighted instances such as the deployment of military personnel during the 2020 voter registration exercise and the abandonment of developmental projects in the Volta Region as causes for concern. He argued that such actions undermine the principles of free and fair elections, casting doubt on the democratic values cherished by the nation.
He called on all well-meaning Ghanaians to oppose these exclusionary practices, as they negatively affect Ghana's democratic dispensation, which is a crucial foundation for development. Chairman Agbavitor stressed the collective responsibility of citizens and leaders to challenge exclusionary politics, hold leaders accountable for their actions, advocate for equitable resource distribution, and ensure the right of every region to register and participate in national elections.
He urged the political divide to work together, emphasizing that every Ghanaian, regardless of their background or location, should be able to fully engage in the democratic process and benefit from the opportunities provided by the nation. By embracing inclusivity and rejecting exclusion, Ghana can build a stronger, more united country that upholds democratic principles and justice.
Mr. Agbavitor made these remarks during a dialogue organised by the Community Focus Foundation Ghana (CFF-Ghana) on the theme "Politics of Exclusion: A Threat to Ghana's Democratic Order" in Ho on July 13, 2023. CFF-Ghana is a Civil Society Organization (CSO) dedicated to promoting participatory governance and electoral integrity in Ghana.
During the event, the Municipal Chief Executive for Ho, Divine Bosson, alleged that the program was dominated by members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and subsequently walked out, accompanied by other members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) present.
