We won’t accept EC’s flippant election results in 2024-NDC
The main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has announced that it will not tolerate the Electoral Commission’s tendency to deliver multiple results in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
The NDC stated that it has implemented measures to prevent any irregularities by the EC as the elections approach.
The NDC does not want a repeat of what happened in the 2020 elections, during which Electoral Commissioner Jean Mensah delivered six different presidential results.
Dr. Mary Awusi, Deputy Director of Inter-party Relations and Civil Society Organizations, conveyed this warning to the EC during her appearance as a panellist on The Citizen Show, hosted by Nana Otu Darko on Accra 100.5 FM on Thursday, May 16, 2024.
Dr. Awusi further accused the EC of using the ongoing Limited Registration exercise to register first-time voters in a way that suppresses votes in NDC strongholds.
In response, she said the NDC has established a 24-hour monitoring unit within its Elections Department and IT to ensure vigilance during and after the exercise.
This unit, led by Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has already identified anomalies in the voter population calculations provided by the EC during the first week of the voter registration exercise.
