NCA assures public of lower data prices by year-end amid criticism over high costs

The National Communication Authority (NCA) has assured the public that data prices will decrease by the last quarter of the year.
This is in response to criticism over high data costs and poor services.
The NCA clarified that MTN’s classification as a Significant Market Power (SMP) is intended to promote fair competition, not hinder MTN's operations.
The Authority plans to implement measures like unbalanced interconnection rates and tariff parity to foster competition and protect consumers.
Speaking on Citi FM, NCA Director General Dr. Joe Anokye highlighted that the introduction of the NGIC wholesale carrier-neutral open access network will allow operators to purchase bulk data more efficiently, leading to reduced costs.
He expressed optimism that data prices will decrease with the network's expected launch later this year.
