2019 WAFU : Black Stars B fail to defend title after penalty shootouts
Ghana failed to win a third straight WAFU Cup of Nations title after a 3-1 penalty shootout defeat to 2019 hosts Senegal at the Stade Lat Dior on Sunday.
The teams were tied 1-1 after extra-time.
Senegal broke the deadlock after 108 minutes through Youssouph Badji but after just three minutes the Black Stars B were level courtesy a strike from Hearts of Oak striker Joseph Esso.
Augustine Okrah, Fatawu Mohammed and Justice Blay missed their penalty kicks for the Black Stars.
McCarthy Appiah was the only Ghanaian who converted his spot kick as Senegal scored all their first three kicks to emerge winners of the competition on home soil for the first time in WAFU Cup of Nations tournament.
