Afcon: My "final 23-man squad'll be a force to reckon with" – Appiah
In a post-match interview after an international friendly against Mauritania on Tuesday, 27 March 2019, Appiah said that after the matches against Kenya and Mauritania, he has seen enough from the players to be sure of whom makes it to the Cup of Nations
"On the whole, I have a rough idea of whom I want to take but I wanted to be sure of each player. I am confident the final 23-man squad will be a force to reckon with,” he said.
Some fans who were at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday night were left disappointed by the Stars’ performance despite a 3:1 victory. Some fans questioned the readiness of the squad and the coach’s tactical prowess ahead of the Afcon after the game.
Despite the barrage of flak, Appiah insists most of the players who make up the squad are deserving of it, and, are, by far, the best the country has got.
“My doors are open to every player and while they are on club duty at their various clubs, we will monitor them and for players who are in the squad now who do not play well for the clubs, between now and May, it will affect them, so, everybody has a chance,” he added.
