Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif, has asserted that Ghana is garnering widespread praise for its impeccable organization of the ongoing 13th African Games. He made this declaration during a press briefing on Monday evening, addressing various issues arising from the games.

“Every international official that we have engaged is applauding us for hosting spectacular games so far. So let’s all embrace and position Ghana as a sports destination," he said.

Urging the media to spotlight the positives, Ussif emphasized, "There are numerous achievements worth highlighting. Let's shift our focus towards them."

Ghana clinched four medals in the games, all attained on Sunday. Winnifred Ntumi secured a gold and two silver medals in weightlifting, while Abeku Jackson contributed a silver in swimming. These victories propelled the nation into the top 10 in the medal tally after seven days of competition.

Despite these triumphs, the games have been marred by several challenges. Badminton player Leslie Addo disclosed that he and his teammates were transported to the competition venue on the back of a pickup truck, highlighting logistical shortcomings. Additionally, a cyclist revealed he was deprived of new equipment for competition after his bicycle malfunctioned moments into the race.

Ghana has invested a substantial sum of $195 million in infrastructure to host the games, with an additional $47 million allocated for operational expenses throughout the competition, which is slated to continue until March 23, 2024.
