African Para Games 2023: Ghana amputee football ousts Liberia 5-0 to book semi-final berth
In a dominant performance at the African Para Games 2023, team Ghana's Amputee Football team secured a spot in the semi-finals by defeating Liberia with an impressive score of 5-0.
This victory followed their earlier 7-0 triumph against Uganda and a narrow 2-1 loss to Morocco in the group stage.
Mohammad Mubarak, who has been in fine form throughout the tournament, opened the scoring just four minutes into the game, giving Ghana an early lead. Shortly after, Hamza Mohammed and Collins Gyamfi added two more goals, extending Ghana's lead to 3-0 before halftime.
Ghana continued their attacking prowess in the second half, with Ussif Yahaya and another goal from Mohammad Mubarak increasing their lead to 5-0. This decisive win ensured Ghana's qualification for the knockout stages, alongside group leaders Morocco, who finished the group stage with a perfect record after three games.
Following the convincing victory, the head coach of the Ghana Amputee Football team, Stephen Richard Obeng, expressed his satisfaction, emphasising the importance of the win for both himself and all Ghanaians.
He also noted that the team had put their previous loss behind them and was now focused on the upcoming matches.
Coach Obeng expressed optimism about the team's prospects in the next round and their determination to perform well.
He acknowledged the high expectations associated with representing Ghana and expressed the hope that they would emerge as champions in the tournament.
