Asamoah Gyan rallies support for Black Stars ahead of crucial World Cup qualifiers
Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has urged the Black Stars to give their all as they push to secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with just two decisive matches left to play.
Ghana currently tops their qualifying group and stands on the brink of earning a fifth World Cup appearance.
The team will face the Central African Republic (CAR) on Wednesday at the Stade d’Honneur de Meknes, with kick-off scheduled for 16:00 GMT.
A victory could seal qualification, depending on results from other fixtures.
Gyan, who is in camp with the squad, expressed strong confidence in the players’ determination and ability to deliver, even under pressure.
“We are very close. The players have their destiny in their hands. They have done all the work and must add the finishing touch.
They should go out, play their hearts out, and get the win,” he told 3 Sports.
The former striker, who remains Ghana’s all-time top scorer, also reflected on the psychological demands of high-stakes matches.
“Some games come with good pressure and keep you on your toes. This is one of those games. I feel there is a bit of pressure, but that is normal.
Some of the players did it in 2022, and I am sure they can handle it,” he added.
The Black Stars are expected to depart Casablanca for Meknes today to finalise preparations for the encounter against CAR.
They will return home to host Comoros on October 12 at the Accra Sports Stadium in their final qualifier.
With optimism high and support growing, Ghanaian fans are hopeful that the Black Stars will finish the campaign in style and book their ticket to the 2026 World Cup.
