Asian Tour: Japan slaps Ghana 2:0 in first international friendly after 2026 FIFA WC qualification

Ghana lost against Japan in a 2:0 international friendly played at the Toyota Stadium in Aichi, Japan.

In the absence of regular captains Jordan Ayew and Thomas Partey, Antoine Semenyo lead the Black Stars on the field, Friday, November 14, 2025.

It was debut day for Derrick Kohn and goalkeeper Joseph Anang, in the match meant to test the strengths of the team in view of its upcoming fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup.

The 2025 Kirin Challenge Cup match was officiated by Australian referee Abraham Benjamin, who's brought his expertise to over 82 A-League matches.

After taking on the Hajime Moriyasu-led Japanese team, Otto Addo's Black Stars will face South Korea next on, Tuesday, November 18, 2025, for their Asian Tour.

Ghana qualified for the 2026 World Cup finishing tops of its Group I, after playing Mali, Madagascar, Central African Republic, Comoros and Chad. 

The global showpiece will be jointly hosted by Canada, USA, and Mexico.
