Commonwealth Games: Azamati finishes first in 100m heat, advances to semi-finals
Ghanaian athlete Benjamin Azamati has won Heat 7 of the men’s 100m race at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
Notwithstanding a wobbly start, Azamati, Ghana’s 100m record holder, finished first with a time of 10.19s to advance to the semi-finals of the men’s 100m sprint.
The 10.19 sub-seconds is below his performance at the 2022 World Athletics Championships where even though he finished the heats at a 10.189s time mark he failed to make it to the next round.
Meanwhile Ghana’s Sean Sarfo-Antwi has also secured a semi-final chance after running 10.33s in Heat 10.
The semifinals are slated for Wednesday, August 3, 2022.
