Déjà vu: Ghana miss another penalty against Uruguay but both teams exit World Cup

History repeated itself at the Al Janoub stadium when Uruguay prevented Ghana from qualifying to the knock out stage of the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Twelve years ago in South Africa, Uruguay beat Ghana on penalty shootout to kick the Black Stars out of the competition.
With a new set of players in 2022, Ghana needed only a draw to see them through the round of 16 stage but they failed as they lost 0-2 to the South Americans.
Black Stars started the game well but a penalty miss from Andre Ayew after Kudus had been brought down in the box took the wind out of their sail and disorganised the team.
Uruguay had the momentum on their side and scored two quick goals courtesy G. de Arrascaeta.
The Ghanaians played better in the second half but could not hit the back of the net as the Ghanaian dream of qualifying to the round of 16 ended in tears after full time.
In the other Group H game, however, South Korea beat Portugal denying Uruguay the chance to progress.
Portugal and South Korea qualified ahead of Ghana and Uruguay in Group H.
